The commodity lumber materials should include stud grade. Residential homes typically don't buy #1 or #2 grade studs for the walls, and usually for 2x6 built-up headers (for example: if the home is framed with 2x6 stud grade walls then those same 2x6's from the P.O. will be used for 2x6 built-up headers).
There is also a significant cost savings to purchase stud grade, and it would be beneficial for us designers to have that option to save our clients money, and/or save us time from using other software (or doing hand calculations) just for the stud walls and 2x6 built-up headers.
Bumping this topic for attention. Just tried the wall stud calculation module and the lowest grade I could select was HF No 2 when I should be able to specify Stud grade. Although I have other software that can handle the same calc (WoodWorks) I would prefer to keep my calculations in a single suite to streamline my workflow.
I fully support this, it seems like a fairly easy to implement one as well.
I agree. I have to jump back and forth between software to design stud walls, manually transferring loadings back and forth. Addition of "stud grade" to the commodity lumber would allow me to keep my entire design process in Forte.
Highly agree with the paragraphs above for the stud grade option in the program. Most multi-family complexes are stud grade when loads allow that produce a substantial cost savings to the owner. Not having this option in the ForteWeb software requires my firm to bounce back and forth between programs for the designs.
