You can currently add custom depths for engineered lumber but not commodity lumber. Commodity lumber only goes up to a depth of 11-1/4" so to check a 2x14 joist, I have to use a different program or do it by hand. Commodity lumber can be ripped down just the same as engineered lumber and the section property calculations are simple with "custom depth".
Not the original poster, but will comment on my "merged idea." We run into a LOT of full sawn members (like a true 2x8) and a lot of 3x, 4x members as well. Would be great to check a 3x8 or a full sawn 2x8 and be able to determine what type of graded lumber we need to spec.
Thanks,
-Alex

We are in the process of adding deeper depth 2x products to ForteWEB. However, upon further investigation into allowing custom depths for sawn lumber we are concerned with how this would affect grading rules. Can you please comment with examples of how you would use custom depths for sawn lumber? Thanks!
