in my situation we're doing a covered deck with no walls, to stiffen the posts we're doing 6*6 braces 3-4 feet long that go from the beam down to the column at a 45 degree angle, securing them on both ends with ready rod, washers and nuts.

adding in these braces would add a new option on the spans and supports columns page, it's different than a normal support is due to the 45 degree angle of the support, it would also have an effect on the column design too as the column would now be taking a horizontal load 3 feet down from the beam
