Need to be able to reopen files sooner

You need to make it so that if you either close a file inadvertently (which can happen) or on purpose that you can open the file sooner without having to sit there and stare at you screen until you can open it again. I think it is supposed to time out for six minutes. That costs money. You have to be able to come up with something that works better.

    Another thought:

The team could implement a "logout all other sessions" option, which would then free up the file in question for work.

It could also show which logged-in user is working on which file to help teams coordinate better.

This is tricky because the server needs to prevent file conflicts. Ever have an issue with multiple people working on the same AutoCAD file locally or on dropbox? That's what will happen if the timeout is too short.

That being said, perhaps some sort of file versioning solution could be implemented.

At the very least, right now you can work around the issue by copying the original file and versioning it with the name "My Design v1", or something like that.

I agree, this is VERY frustrating, "Someone Else from your team is in the file" Um NO I was in the file and the programmed crashed.

I end up copying the file so I don't have to wait then deleting the original and renaming the copied file. Should no have to do that

That sounds terrible, Geoff. I'm more in line with the OP, it just keeps saying the file is in use and I can't open it until some internal refresh of their server released the file for working on.

This all goes back to moving it to an online program. Bad idea. Always has been, will always remain so. Hilti Profis did the same thing, Forcing us to go online and work off their network, etc., and it's just a nice way to alienate your customers. Leave the web version as possible, but you need a desktop version. You also need a way to save the files/data locally and work on it locally without internet. This is just so obvious.

I use the software daily reviewing mostly residential construction. Over the lastyear, there have been many times while inputting data, the system locks and won't disengage. It usually happens when one enters data in a field, then jumps to a new field, but starts to type while the program is shaded out. The frustrating bit is the program hangs, but then locks up. It does not work to close the tab or window as when trying to open a new tab or window it states that Forte is running. When this happens, waiting does not solve the problem. It usually takes restarting the computer to proceed.
