Variable Geometry for Hip/Valley Roof Framing Members

The current version of Forte does not have a means for varying the hip or valley geometry. All designs are based on a 45 degree orintation. For roof with two different slopes (3:12 one direction and 5:12 the other, for example), you cannot adjust the hip geometry to calculate the member stresses and deflections correctly. Hips and valleys can be oriented to have plan angles greater than or less than 45.

If your rafter run on one side is shorter than your rafter run on the other side, it's no longer 45 degrees...

Actually you design hip/valley with different slopes. Easy to do, enter 3 of the 4 pieces of info required - 2 side lengths, 2 pitches - and FW will take care of calculating the 4th piece of info & generating the loads
