I never understood why changing 'roof geometry' of a valley rafter would reset - spans, supports, & loads of that member.
With the desktop version I had learned to save a copy of my design before I ever went in to touch a valley rafter because all of a sudden I would touch something on the geometry page & see that my valley rafter now failed! With the desktop, at least I could go back to my saved version and write down my supports & loads to re-enter them into my current design.
Problem with the web version is - it auto saves right over my other files and I have no way to go back and look at what items forte erased for me when I touched the geometry.
I would also love to see a save feature to be able to go back to a previously saved version of the project.
I just accidently deleted the Main Level instead of the Tall Wall level I was anticipating on deleting. I had all of the main level header and beam calcs for the project done and now I have to go back and redo the whole main level. I know it is my fault, After you select Delete it asks you, "Are you sure you want to delete?" Well I thought I had the Tall Wall Level selected so Yes, that is what I wanted to delete. Then the Main Level disappeared and the Tall Wall Level was still there... if If this were to happen with the desktop version, NO problem!! Exit the file, DONT save, reopen the file and TaDaaaa mistake fixed.. Now i am stuck redoing all of the Calcs.
It is on the Roof Geometry tab, when designing a Valley Rafter the two sets of rafter lengths gets flip flopped. and there is no way to correct the design because you are only allowed to enter 3 or the 4 parameters (roof pitch & rafter length)
No problem, I will figure out what the issue is. Thanks for all the information.
That would be very helpful.
Or some way to version or retrieve one of the previously auto saved versions would work (in my case) too.
Thank you
The defect found was actually called in (before I knew about the feedback site) and the person I talked to reported (or talked to) the engineering group directly while I was on the phone. They verified the issue and I let to go from there. So I can't refer you to an online issue link.
I will need to go back and look at your job to see what the defect is so I can make sure we are addressing the issue you are reporting. As for not automatically saving the job, we can consider doing this in the future and adding a Save button so you can save as needed. Thanks.
When something automatically save my mistakes - yet I have no way to retrieve one of my previous versions that was auto saved - having an auto save feature becomes a detriment, not a feature.
If there is a way to go back to a previous version, I have yet to find it.
For example I currently have a design, which due to a bug in the software (reported elsewhere) caused my valley rafter to fail analysis and since this valley rafter is a linked component it causes many other members to fail. True, if I would not have mistakenly touched the roof geometry on this valley rafter all would be well, but since now many members are failing I am stuck with a crippled design until the software bug is fixed. So for me ForteWeb has become useless, where as Forte desktop I would have been able to retrieve a previous version and go on from where that was - staying away from that particular valley rafter.
Hi Steve, thanks for your idea. If I am understanding correctly, you have the ability to make a copy of a job file using the File Manager before making the changes to members in the file. This would require someone to proactively determine that a copy is needed before making modifications to the file, which may not always work out. We automatically save the file every time an addition/modification is made to minimize loss of work when a ForteWEB session ends abruptly either be closing a browser tab or any other reason.
