Let's paint a picture. You have two lintels that are really close to eachother such that their posts are touching. You want to check the lintels individually, but alas you do not have enough space for bearing to be sufficient. Now, instead of re-modeling the beam as clearspanning both lintels, you just take your two models and combine them. Forte automatically places the loads correctly with respect to support 1 and adds a post in the middle creating a two span continuous beam. You can then remove the central support should you so choose to check it as a clear span beam of both openings.
