The "team" aspect of ForteWEB" is an integral component to bringing the web software up to par with the previous non-web-based software version. Unfortunately, editing and viewing documents created by different users in a shared team is very uncoordinated and clunky. Currently, a file is locked by the most recent user for 15 minutes after their latest activity. During those 15 minutes, no other user can open, view, or edit the file. To "unlock" the file, one of three things must happen:
1. 15 minutes pass since the original user exited the file.
2. The original user opens another file.
3. The original user closes out of ForteWEB.
(Via ForteWEB customer service. Option #2 was recommended as the best immediate solution.)
I would like to make a suggestion that you add an "exit" button that is accessible on every page within a file so that regardless of where a user is working within a shared file, they can easily find the exit button and relinquish their ownership once they're finished. Alternatively, a dialogue box could pop up each time a user leaves a shared file, asking if they'd like to relinquish their editing rights before they close the file. One or both of these actions would be a helpful solution to the larger problem of awkward file management within ForteWEB.
We have reduced the lock time on files to 6 minutes and added the ability to copy a locked file.
Or maybe the option to create a copy and work on it instead of the original
