wall:stud design currently divulges this footnote....
"A bearing area factor of 1.25 has been applied to base plate bearing capacity."
I think at least some engineers would appreciate an option of shutting that off, and use 1.0.
Alternately, another line about "plate shall not be cut within 3" of stud bearing" could be added. I think a lot of non-technical designers may be unaware of this increase being allowable only when the stud is far enough from the end grain of the plate. In my experience this isn't often controlling, except on multistory studs, so maybe an additional note about extending the plate past the face of the stud would be enough.
